Postdoctoral Researcher: Development and Stem Cell Biology
The lab of Professor Magdalena Zernicka-Goetz at California Institute of Technology (Caltech) is looking for a dedicated post-doctoral researcher to investigate mechanisms of self-organisation, symmetry breaking and pattern formation during early mammalian development using mouse and human stem cells and embryos as model systems.
Recently the lab developed unique methods for studying mouse and human embryos and for building embryo-like structures from stem cells (e.g. Bedzhov and Zernicka-Goetz, Cell 2014; Harrison et al., Science 2017; Shahbazi et al, Nature, 2016 and Nature 2017; Sozen et al., Nature Cell Biology, 2018) to discover inter-relationships between the embryo architecture and stem cell potential during self-organization and symmetry breaking. The successful candidate should have (or about to be awarded) a PhD in developmental or cell biology or biophysics. The following skills are important: high-resolution live embryo microscopy; developmental and cell biology, image analysis, and model building.
