"While You Were Sleeping: Memory Consolidation"

Your brain is active during sleep as it cycles between deep, slow wave sleep and rapid eye movement, or dream sleep. Messages sent back and forth between the hippocampus and the cortex during these sleep stages sets the stage for the consolidation of long-term memory.  A model of this process suggests a mechanism for how consolidation could allow the cortex to generalize from specific events.

Refreshments will be served at 3:45 pm outside the BI Auditorium.
