2019 BBE Retreat

Biology and Biological Engineering Retreat 2019

Every fall BBE hosts an annual retreat. The retreat serves as a forum for faculty, grad students, postdocs and research staff to discuss BBE's diverse research and to socialize. The event also gives first-year grad students the opportunity to select rotation labs and learn more about the research of the division.

The retreat is hosted by professors, Joe Parker, Rebecca Voorhees, Dave Van Valen, and Kaihang Wang.

  • Faculty
  • Grad students (in a BBE supported option)
  • Postdocs
  • Invited guests
  • Laboratory research staff (with faculty permission)
  1. How do I sign up to attend?

All participants must preregister at BBE Retreat 2019 Preregistration by August 5th, 2019.

Preregistration is not a guarantee of space availability. Priority to attend the retreat is given to BBE personnel (see #1) and all efforts will be made to accommodate as many labs and personnel as possible.

If you have preregistered and a spot to attend is available, you will be contacted with registration information.

  1. I preregistered but have not been contacted about final registration. What happened?

If you preregister and have not been contacted with registration information by August 14th, 2019, you have been added to the waitlist automatically. If you are on the waitlist and a spot becomes available, you will be contacted with registration information.

  1. How much does it cost for postdocs and grad students to attend?

There is no charge to attend the retreat. However, you will be assigned a roommate from the group with whom you will share accommodations (double rooms with two beds). Please indicate your roommate preference on the preregistration form or you will be assigned a roommate based on personnel type, gender and lab. Your roommate preference must also be preregistered and fall into the criteria above (see #1).

  1. Do I have to make a poster to attend?

Yes and no. Each Lab must submit at least one poster. You are also welcome to set up an individual poster. The poster size limit is 36' tall by 42' long. Pushpins will be provided. We prefer that you do not laminate your poster for ease of hanging. If you insist on laminating your poster please bring your own poster hanging supplies.

  1. May I bring a friend, significant other, or members of my family?

Yes. However, there is a flat fee of $340.00 for guests 12 and up and $50.00 per child under 12. This fee includes occupancy and meals with the retreat group for both days.

+++There are no discounts or refunds on the fee for a single night stay+++

Please drop off your check (payable to "California Institute of Technology") to Lauren Breeyear or Kenya Zeigler in Alles 182.
